Columbia, meet Valeria

Meet Valeria, rhymes with Bavaria. mail

Valeria Turturro is a long-time volunteer who hails from the great state of Louisiana. After following the MU School of Journalism’s beckon call for magazine journalism, she found many ways she wanted to invest in Columbia. She first heard about Mustard Seed Fair Trade at Veritas, an MU student ministry, and after her first visit to the store, she was hooked.

“I loved the look of the place with its natural paint colors…I just remember it was different than anything else in Columbia.”

At the store, Valeria has her eye on a large hanging tree tapestry—until someone snags it for their own. She also wants people to know how basic fair trade truly is, and how making small changes to our buying habits can make a big difference.

“It doesn’t have to be a concept solely applied to home goods or little knick knacks—I think we can make an effort to make more of our consumer purchases fair trade.”

In other news, Valeria has a crafty side of her own. In her spare time, she loves making crafts or redecorating her apartment. She also tries her hand at painting for relaxation, and savors moments she can spend reading a magazine.

So, come say hi to Valeria…and check out the tree tapestry!
