Hailing from the spectacular area of Kansas City, MO, Charell Strong is loving her life at Stephens College and Mustard Seed Fair Trade. Lured in by Stephen’s “fantastic fashion program!!!!”, Charell has set her sights on doing brand management for a fashion company or working for a public relations firm.
Once upon a time, she attended a volunteer fair at school,
and Mustard Seed caught her eye.
“The store really interested me because I didin’t know a lot about fair trade, and it offered me a chance to do volunteer work that directly relates to my interests,” Charell says.
Last semester, Charell served as the store’s business management intern and continues to volunteer on a regular basis. She’s been captivated by the store and its mission from the very beginning, and envisions the blue teapot and cup set sitting daintily in her own kitchen.
As an intern, Charell sees myths connected with fair trade products debunked. She says oftentimes people associate fair trade with expensive or low quality, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
“Fair trade is not only about the product but the person and story behind the item. Fair Trade makes purchases personal.”
When she’s not lending her business skills to the store, Charell is usually being the responsible student doing homework. However, she is admittedly a Glee! fanatic and catches the television show whenever she can.
So come say hello to Charell! You can compliment her spectacular management skills and show her your show choir moves!
