October is Fair Trade month and we have plenty to celebrate!
October 8-10, 2010
Artrageous Weekend is here again! We will be celebrating with festivities on Friday and Saturay.
Friday night from 6-9 p.m. we are opening the exhibit “Anamnesis” a collection by Renee Reed-Miller. Her collection explores external elements using organic cues from the natural world. Her ultimate goal is to read the poetry of a universal, human journey. Through the medium of clay, she seeks to recover what has long been forgotten. Also on Friday evening, we will be welcoming guest artist, Liliana Morales, who will be doing a Flamenco performance and demonstration with students from the Stephens College dance department.
Saturday, “Anamnesis” will continue throughout the day. We will be joined by local musician Margaret Waddell at 11 a.m. for a Children’s Music Lesson . Margaret will share with us the traditional uses of the fair trade instruments in store and will provide additional demonstrations throughout the day.
ARTisan Show and Sell, our first ever fundraiser will kick off at 6 p.m.! This fundraiser will benefit buying relationship with two of our producers, TRAMA Textiles and Betterway Imports. We will have coffee provided by Lakota, delicious desserts from Main Squeeze, wine from non profit organization Wine to Water, and treats from our Divine Chocolate Cookbook. We will also have live music, a silent auction, and a studio apartment staged in fair trade decor with items for purchase. Join us at this event to learn more about the artisans we work and support their endeavors in Guatemala, India, and the Middle East. Location: Artlandish Gallery 6-9 p.m., General Admission $10, Tickets available in store!
It’s homecoming weekend at Mizzou! Get your Tiger Spirit Fair Trade Style here at the store!
