Today we are highlighting recycled paper jewelry from SUUBI and Light Gives Heat!
Suubi means hope. This project is about creating consistent weekly incomes in otherwise unemployable areas in Uganda through the purchasing and re-selling of handmade jewelry. This allows for women to provide food and pay school fees for their children. The majority of the 100 women are Acholi widows who were displaced from Northern Uganda because of a war lasting over 20 years, that has directly affected their tribe and homeland.
Simple colored pieces of paper like this..
..are recycled into these gorgeous earrings, as well as many other products!
Each piece of jewelry purchased comes with a story of the woman who created that specific piece of jewelry.
