TRAMA is an association of 400 backstrap loom weavers in the western highlands of Guatemala. TRAMA offers high quality products that ensure fair wages to the craftspeople as well as hands-on classes for individuals wanting to learn about traditional weaving processes. TRAMA weavers are Mayan women who generally live in rural and isolated communities. These communities received the worst violence during the Guatemalan civil war and continue to receive less resources and infrastructure today. TRAMA is the only cooperative in Qezaltenango. The cooperative offers women a way to support their families with dignity while preserving their textile heritage.
