Plant: Vision.

The vision of Mustard Seed Fair Trade is deeply rooted in our commitment to Fair Trade.

Philosophy

Throughout generations of conventional trade, some of the world's most skilled craftsmen have been marginalized. Today, talented artisans in regions of Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Central Africa are fighting to maintain personal dignity while struggling to provide for themselves and their families. Fair Trade organizations work to provide these artisans with an opportunity for economic development by helping them rightfully earn a living wage in safe and healthy working conditions.

In addition to ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions, transparent Fair Trade practices empower men and women of the majority world to develop long-term relationships with buyers, grow in business expansion and ownership, and cultivate prolonged subsistence through environmental sustainability.

Mission

Mustard Seed Fair Trade is a locally planted nonprofit organization in Columbia, Missouri that seeks to engage the local community in the principles and practice of fair trade. Our mission is to use fair trade retail to connect Columbia with the global community.

Our store is located at 25 South Ninth Street in the Downtown District of Columbia, Missouri. Mustard Seed Fair Trade sells handcrafted goods that are purchased from Fair Trade Certified organizations, primarily Ten Thousand Villages and A Greater Gift as well as a number of smaller wholesalers. These organizations work directly with artisans, enabling them to improve their quality of life. In addition, we are working to purchase products directly from disadvantaged artisans both locally and internationally in an effort to promote the principles of fair trade through personal connections. We carry a variety of unique hand-made products including jewelry, home decor, clothing, stationery, children’s toys, musical instruments, and more.
